About Me
I am board-certified in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with over 30 years of professional experience in both private and public sectors.

I attended Howard University College of Medicine. I did my residency training at the University of Colorado and the University of Illinois. I completed post-residency fellowship in the Law and Psychiatry Division of the Yale University Department of Psychiatry and was previously board certified in Forensic Psychiatry.
I work with children (eight and older), adolescents, and adults.

I strive to provide empathic listening, validation, and treatment that helps clients identify obstacles and strategize toward accomplishing their goals in a straight-forward and effective manner.
I do not participate in insurance plans. Payment is due at the time of service. Methods of payment accepted are cash, checks and credit cards (including FSA debit cards). Upon request, patients will be provided with the forms necessary to file for insurance claims.
My Services

ADULT SESSIONS MAY BE IN PERSON OR VIA TELE-PSYCHIATRY
I do not see children or adolescents remotely
Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation
After an initial free phone consultation and with your informed consent, our work together begins with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation that includes discussing your current symptoms and my obtaining information about your physical health as well as emotional and behavioral issues that impact your functioning.
In some cases, I may request that you permit me to obtain past treatment records or communicate with other providers who are involved in your care.
I believe that a thorough assessment is essential as the basis for developing a treatment plan that clearly identifies your goals and my recommendations.
Diagnostic visits are typically scheduled for 60-90 minutes.
Psychotherapy
I strongly believe that "talk therapy" and age-appropriate play therapy are essential to mental health care.
I do NOT see patients ONLY for medication.
My education and clinical experience include extensive use of both insight-oriented and cognitive therapy modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
At present, I work with children (ages 8 and older), adolescents and adults. As appropriate, I work with families.
Psychotherapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes. Sessions for younger children may be shorter.
Psychopharmacology
I prescribe psychiatric medication(s) for some, though by no means all, of my patients when, in my clinical judgement, medication is warranted as an element of the treatment plan on which we agree.

I obtain your informed consent, based on discussing benefits and risks of the prescribed medication as well as consequences of choosing to decline medication.

My working with you is NOT dependent on your decision about medication.

Patients may be seen for follow-up medication management once clinically stable. This entails regularly scheduled visits that focus on the symptoms the medication is intended to address, review of any bothersome side effects, and discussion of relevant changes in your life.

These visits are typically15-20 minutes in duration.
